Pulau Aur is part of the Johor Marine Park located approximately 65km east of Mersing, a town lying on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Traditionally, Pulau Aur is a stopover point for fishermen. For the last 3 decades, this idyllic island was more famous for being an ideal training base for new divers as well as being an excellent dive location for certified divers. The island is closed during the monsoon months from Late November till Late February.
Scuba diving at Pulau Aur is an unforgettable experience. Divers can expect to see a wide variety of soft and hard corals that are usually associated with diving in the tropics. Schools of Bumphead parrot fish are known to visit the island and the nearby Pulau Lang. Occasionally, Manta Rays and Whalesharks can be sighted at sites just off the island such as Rayner's Rock, Pinnacles and Pulau Pinang. On the macro front, Pulau Aur doesn't disappoint either, as at times the dive sites can be littered with Nudibranches and other critters. The dive sites around the Pulau Aur region varies greatly, from calm, shallow sheltered sites to exposed sides with fierce currents. As a result, you can find sites suitable for all levels of divers here at Pulau Aur.
Due to its distance from mainland Malaysia, the dive sites around Pulau Aur are usually blessed with great visibility. The population on the main island of Pulau Aur and the neighbouring Pulau Dayang remains low til this date. Majority of the natives live in Malay villages known as "Kampung" scattered around the two islands. This has kept development of the islands in check and helped the area retained its charm as a rustic getaway from the daily hustles of life. For years, Pulau Aur has been a paradise for city dwellers to escape from the chores of urban life.
The weather on Pulau Aur is fine all year around. On most days it can be greeted with sunny skies and little wind. Average air temperature is around 32 Degrees Celsius. Water temperatures are between 27 to 29 Degrees Celsius. Tropical rain showers are common and usually last just an hour or so.
The Fishermen Dive Team conducts weekend trips on our very own dive boats - Fishermen Reef Explorer and Fishermen Dive Explorer - during the diving season (Late February to Early November)!
